6 party chiefs taste defeat in MP

State presidents of five political parties and the national president of one party were defeated in Madhya Pradesh.

Although the BJP won 30 out of the 40 seats, its state unit president Nandkumar Sai was trounced by Congress co-spokesman Ajit Jogi in Raigarh by more than 4,300 votes.

Similarly, state Bahujan Samaj Party president Dauram Ratankar was relegated to the third position in Sarangarh constituency from where former state Congress president Parasram Bharadwaj won the election for the sixth time in a row.

State Samata Party president and legislator Kanker Munjare finished third and forfeited his deposit in Balaghat. The BJP's Gauri Shankar Bisen wrested Balaghat from the Congress.

Gondwana Gantantra Party state president Hirasingh Markam (Janjgir), state Samajwadi Party president Gauri Yadav (Khajuraho) and state Dalit Sena president Vimla Sondiya (Khajuraho) also lost their deposits.

On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president Uma Bharati retained her Khajuraho seat by an impressive margin of more than 102,000 votes.

Swarna Samaj Party national president Laxman Singh was also defeated in Rewa.

Former Bajrang Dal president Jaibhan Singh Pawaiya was defeated by Congress general secretary Madhavrao Scindia in Gwalior.

While former state BJP president Dr Laxmi Narayan Pandey retained his Mandsaur seat, Parasram Bharadwaj won the Sarangarh seat for the sixth time.
