Virbhadra Singh sworn in as Himachal CM

An eight member Congress ministry, headed by Virbhadra Singh, was sworn in by Himachal Pradesh Governor Rama Devi.

She administered the oath of office to Singh and his seven colleagues at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Shimla.

The ministers are Sant Ram, J B L Kanachi, Rangila Ram Rao, Chander Kumar, Ganguram Musafir, Gulab Singh Thakur and Ram Lal Thakur.

Rama Devi advised the new CM to seek vote of confidence on the floor of the House by March 16. She said both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, supported by the Himachal Vikas Congress, did not have the required number of members to form the government. She had invited the Congress because it was the largest party. She said her objective was to establish a stable government.
