EC orders repoll in two Bihar booths

The Election Commission on Tuesday withheld the result of Bihar's Rajmahal (ST) Lok Sabha constituency and directed repoll in two booths following complaints of irregularities.

State chief electoral officer A K Basu said that repoll in booth number 39 of the Littipara assembly segment and booth number 23 of the Rajmahal segment would be held on March 5. Both the observer and the returning officer concerned had complained that ballot papers were found in a 'suspicious manner' at these booths. Besides, the number of ballots found were more than the tally given by them.

Earlier, a report from Rajmahal had said Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Som Marandi was declared elected.

Meanwhile, the EC allowed the declaration of the result in the Gaya Lok Sabha constituency.
