BJP discussing ways to form new govt

The Bharatiya Janata Party is discussing ways and means to form a popular government at the Centre, BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee said on Tuesday.

Before leaving for Lucknow on a thanksgiving visit, Vajpayee, who won the seat with a huge majority, said though there were difficulties, ''The overall results are satisfactory and the voters want the BJP and its allies to serve them.''

He said the situation, at present, was full of possibilities and efforts are on to garner the requisite numbers to form the next government.

About the reverses in Maharashtra, Vajpayee observed, ''We have to sit down and assess the situation in Maharashtra and Rajasthan.'' He felt the unification of non-BJP-Shiv Sena forces made the difference in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the Haryana Lok Dal (Rashtriya) today announced unconditional support of its four elected MPs to the BJP in forming a government at the Centre.

Party chief Om Parkash Chautala said his party had decided to back Vajpayee long before the election results were declared. He said his party's decision would not conflict with the fact that its rival Haryana Vikas Party heads a government in the state.

"We have extended unconditional support to make Vajpayee prime minister of the country," Chautala said.
