Congress continues winning spree in Nagaland assembly polls

Congress continued its winning spree, bagging 47 seats of the 60 member Nagaland assembly. Fortythree candidates were earlier elected unopposed. Only one independent was elected to the assembly.

Nagaland Home Minister Chuba Chang was elected from Noksen, defeating his lone independent rival, Noksang by a margin of 2591 votes. Atovi Sumi, a new face in the Congress, was declared elected from Dimapur (three) constituency defeating his lone independent rival T L Angami by 1618 votes. In Tizit B Tingkap Wangnao (Congress) defeated independent Yeangphong by 217 votes, while in Meluri, Congress candidate Khuosatho Nyusou wrested the seat defeating his independent rival by a margin of 4594 votes.

In western Angami constituency, independent candidate Asu Keyho wrested the seat from Congress's N T Nakhro. Asu is the first independent candidate to defeat Nakhro.
