BJP calls for dissolution of Karnataka assembly

The Bharatiya Janata Party which, along with poll ally Lok Shakti is doing extremely well in Karnataka, ruled out the formation of a government there with 'defectors' from other parties.

The BJP-Lok Shakti combine has already won the Shimogo seat, and is leading in 16 other places.

A jubilant B S Yediyurappa, the state BJP president, said the party would convince the Lok Shakti, which is against the dissolution of the assembly, to go to the people and seek a fresh mandate.

"Let us get a clear verdict so that our combine can form a new government that works for the people," he said.

Yediyurappa said Chief Minister J H Patel should own moral responsibility for the Dal's rout and recommend the dissolution of the assembly.

"The chief minister has no right to continue in office. The best way for him is to meet the governor, seek dissolution of the assembly and go before the people."
