Monsoon reaches Saurashtra, KutchSaurashtra and Kutch received their first monsoon showers during the past 24 hours. Rainfall ranging between 25 mm and 200 mm opened the sowing season for kharif crops and eased drinking water problem in many areas there. Sowing done after the June 9 cyclone, which had brought with it considerable rainfall on the coastal lines of Saurashtra, would be helped by last night's rainfall, agricultural experts said. The highest rainfall of 200 mm was recorded in Manavadar in Junagadh district, while the lowest (25 mm) was reported from parts of Jamnagar district. The Southwest monsoon has also been active in West Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa and madhya Maharashtra. Rain or thundershowers occurred at most places in coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep, at many places in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Vidarbha, at a few places in Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka and at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Orissa, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep, at many places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, plains of Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, madhya Maharashtra Marathwada, Vidarbha and interior Karnataka, at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, and at isolated places over the rest of the country. Heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places in Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka and Kerala and at isolated places in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, Gujarat and Lakshadweep during the next 24 hours. Heatwave conditions prevailed in the western parts of West Rajasthan. Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in remaining parts of West Rajasthan and Kutch.
