200 villages still under water in Dhemaji district

The flood situation in Assam's Dhemaji district remained grim on Tuesday with around 200 villages still under water, official reports said.

National highway 52, connecting Dhemaji with Lakhimpur, has been submerged at Chamarjan by the surging waters of river Jiadhal, and a portion of the railway line at Kekuri Gaon washed away.

In North Lakhimpur, about 534 dwellings and crops in over 5,839 hectares, was damaged in the current wave of flood.

Officials said the situation in other affected districts was improving with the rivers falling below danger level.
