Advani offers prayers at Golden Temple

Union Home Minister Lal Kishinchand Advani today paid obeisance at the Golden Temple, Durgiana Mandir and laid a wreath at the Flame of Liberty in the historic Jallianwala Bagh.

Accompanied by a large number of Akali and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders including Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Advani, who arrived in Amritsar this morning, took a round of the parikrama before going inside the sanctum sanctorum to offer prayers. He was proffered a siropa by Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra. He also paid obeisance at the Akal Takht.

This was his first visit to the holy city as home minister.

He was also presented the robe of honour at the Golden Temple information centre by SGPC authorities and the siropa at the Durgiana Mandir.

Later he left for the border villages of Rania, Kakar Dhoake and Dal to take stock of the problems of the people there.
