Bihar team briefs Advani on law and orderThe three-member Central team which toured different parts of Bihar to assess the law and order situation in the state, today apprised Home Minister L K Advani of its initial findings. The home ministry team, headed by R D Kapoor, additional secretary, during its two-day tour visited Patna, Muzaffarpur and Purnea. The other members are V K Malhotra, joint secretary, and K B Reddy, director. Home ministry sources said the team would prepare a detailed report and submit it to home secretary B P Singh early next week. The Union Cabinet last Tuesday decided to send the team to Bihar in the wake of complaints of deteriorating law and order following the killing of two MLAs within 24 hours. The Bharatiya Janata Party and its ruling partner Samata Party have been demanding dismissal of the Rabri Devi government and imposition of President's rule in the state. Meanwhile, another Central team which has been sent to West Bengal is yet to return to the capital. The team has been sent in the wake of complaints from the Trinamul Congress, another ruling partner of the BJP at the Centre, that several of its workers were killed or victimised by the state government during the recent panchayat elections. However, sources in the home ministry said today that the West Bengal government had denied having any hand in the killing of Trinamul workers. UNI |
