Monsoon comes to Delhi!

The monsoon hit New Delhi as many as 14 days in advance, bringing over four centimetres of rainfall and signalling an abrupt end to summer.

''This is a record. The monsoon has never arrived so early, possibly in this century,'' Delhi Meteorological Office Deputy Director General S R Kalsi said.

The Southwest monsoon normally arrives in Delhi by the end of June and lasts till mid-September.

Meanwhile, heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places in West Madhya Pradesh in the next 48 hours.

The Southwest monsoon has been vigorous in Vidarbha. Rain or thundershowers occurred at most places in Konkan and Goa, madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Kerala, at many places in Orissa and coastal Karnataka, at a few places in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar plateau, plains of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana, and at isolated places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Haryana, East Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka.

Very light rain also occurred at isolated places in north interior Karnataka.

Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.

Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa and Vidarbha, at many places in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, plains of south Uttar Pradesh, hills of West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, East Rajasthan, Gujarat, coastal Karnataka and Kerala, at a few places in Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, plains of North Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep, and at isolated places in the rest of the country.

Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in some parts of Gujarat.

They were appreciably below normal in Kashmir and were below normal in parts of Haryana and Punjab.
