Orissa heat wave toll rises to 1,575

With 44 more deaths reported overnight, the death toll due to heat wave in Orissa has risen to 1,575.

Official sources said the deaths were reported from Baragarh, Bolangir, Puri, Balasore and Kalahandi districts even though day temperature at several places dipped following the rains.

With 19 more casulties, the toll in Balasore district has gone up to 124 while 10 people died in Baragarh district taking the toll there to 24.

As per the latest report, 367 people have so far lost their lives in Dhenkanal district followed by Cuttack 252, Sambalpur 146 and Balasore 124.

As many as 425 people were still being treated in various hospitals in Dhenkanal district while 387 people with sunstroke symptoms had been admitted to hospitals in Cuttack district.

Over 1,900 people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the state for sunstroke.
