Bodo militants held in Nalbari

Three hardcore Bodo Liberation Tiger militants were apprehended at Nalbari in Assam on Sunday.

The army and the police had together launched an operation to flush out the militants.

A revolver with some ammunition and a demand note, signed by the self-styled district commander of the banned organisation, were recovered from the extremists, the report added.

Meanwhile, suspected Bodo extremists shot dead a college principal and looted around Rs 400,000 in separate places of Darrang district in Assam today, an official report said.

It said two Bodo extremists fired at Tangla College principal Ganeswar Shaharia while he was returning on a bicycle from the college. He was immediately shifted to the hospital where he died.

Police investigations were on but no arrest has been made so far, the report said.

In another incident suspected Bodo extremists snatched around Rs 400,000 from a pay escort party which was carrying the salary of Udalguri Agriculture Department at Tangni P W D road. The escort party was carrying the money from Mongaldoi to Udalguri, the report added.
