Large arms cache recovered in KashmirThe counter intelligence wing of Jammu and Kashmir has recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch besides the militancy-infested Doda. According to official sources, the cache was recovered after some militants caught by the Criminal Investigation Department provided information. ''With this, a well-knit network of Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence has been smashed,'' the sources claimed. The recovered ammunition included 488 detonators, 33 metres of fuse wire, 12 kg gelatine, seven grenades, one revolver, two fuses, nine cartridges of .303 rifles, one case of rocket launchers and large quantity of explosive material. It is learnt that the materials were to be used at crowded places in Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch and Doda. The nabbed militants at the Joint Interrogation Centre in Jammu revealed that they had also been instructed by mentors across the border to blow up vital installations like telephone exchanges, bridges, government offices, television towers, water reservoirs and petrol pumps. ''Police posts and army pickets were their next targets,'' the sources said, adding that the grenades were to be set off at crowded places and outside religious places to cause communal tension. They also allegedly disclosed that some consignments of arms and ammunition were buried in the forests of Rajouri, Poonch and Doda. Special CID teams recovered the consignments. The CID has also arrested some hardcore militant leaders from Rajouri and Poonch and recovered large quantities of arms and ammunition following their interrogation. UNI |
