Envoys to Britain, Laos offer to quit

India's High Commissioner to Britain Salman Haider and Ambassador to Laos Dr S D Muni have offered to resign from their post, Minister of State for External Affairs Vasundhara Raje told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

Haider, who earlier served as foreign secretary, was appointed high commissioner to London by the Gujral government a few weeks before the general election.

Dr Muni, who was earlier a professor at the School of International Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, was also appointed ambassador to Laos by the United Front government.

Both offered to resign following the installation of the BJP-led coalition government at the Centre.

However, the government has not accepted their resignations.
