Supreme Court orders proper power supply to AIIMS

The Supreme Court today directed the Delhi Vidyut Board to ensure uninterrupted power supply at proper voltage to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences within 12 hours to facilitate the functioning of the air-conditioning plant and the operation theatres.

A vacation bench of Justices G T Nanavati and S Saghir Ahmed said if the order was not implemented, the court would direct a high-level inquiry into the matter and take stern action against those found responsible.

The court also directed the DVB to forthwith install an additional transformer at the AIIMS to augment the power supply there. The court also directed the New Delhi Municipal Council to install a capacitor to boost voltage to the required level.

It asked the concerned officers of the DVB, NDMC and AIIMS to sit together and sort out the problem, reporting the progress to the court on Monday.
