Mamta Bannerjee fronts railways committee

Mamta Bannerjee has been appointed chairman of the Lok Sabha standing committee on railways, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana announced.

Briefing the media, Khurana said that ten more committees had been constituted.

Former prime minister Inder Kumar Gujral would head the one for external affairs.

Kamal Chaudhary of the BJP will head the committee for defence, Harin Pathak of the BJP will head the one for labour and welfare, Raghuvans Prasad Singh of the RJD fronts the food and civil supplies standing committee and Somnath Chatterjee of the CPI-M will head the standing committee on communications.

Other committee heads announced today were Yerranaidu (TDP) for agriculture, Kisan Singh Sanghwan (HLD) for urban and rural development.

The Congress got three of the top posts, with Balram Jakhar appointed to head the committee on petroleum and chemicals, Murli Deora heads the finance committee, K Karunakaran heads the standing commitee for energy.
