Kashmiri Pandits appeal to NHRC about Doda killingsDisplaced Kashmiri Pandits have urged the National Human Rights Commission to send a fact-finding team to the disturbed Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. They also want the central and state governments to reveal the action taken reports on the continued killings of Pandits in the state. In a complaint before the NHRC, the Kashmiri Samiti, Delhi, and the Doda Vichar Manch have requested the Commission to take cognisance of the brutal killings and gross violation of the human rights of Kashmiri Pandits and take appropriate action against the culprits. ''In view of the continued killing and violation of human rights against Hindus, it becomes morally and legally necessary for the NHRC to send a fact-finding team to investigate into the human rights violation.'' The team should be deputed to Doda district in particular, and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir in general, to investigate the brutal killings of the Hindu minority in the state. The complaint requested the NHRC to seek action taken reports from the state and central government within a week, so that the nation is given proper and correct information in this regard. The Samiti also asked the NHRC to direct the government to pay handsome compensation to the families of the victims and protect the life and property of the remaining Hindu inhabitants of the area. The government should also provide full facilities of living and other means of sustenance to those who have fled or migrated from the state as a result of the brutal killings, the complaint said.
