Pandits protest in Delhi against Doda massacreHundreds of Kashmiri Pandits, including women and children, staged a demonstration in protest against Tuesday's massacre of 16 Hindus by militants in the Doda district of Jammu. The protest was organised by Panun Kashmir, a body of Pandits, living in various parts of the country since their migration from the valley in 1990. The latest killings 'bitterly reflect' the total failure of the Dr Farooq Abdullah government in protecting the minority from the evil designs of fundamentalists, a statement said. Panun Kashmir expressed concern over the Bharatiya Janata Party's failure government to detect the growing nexus between the National Conference government and militants in the state. The statement condemned the attitude of all political parties which ''on one side express resentment on the deportation of illegal Bangladeshis from Bombay and yet maintain a stoic silence on the ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits and other Hindu minorities in Jammu and Kashmir.'' It demanded that the Hindus in J&K be granted minority status and Pandits be recognised as internally displaced people. UNI
