Serial killer admits to murdering 43

Kommirigundla Gopal, the main accused in the serial mystery killings in Chittoor and adjoining districts of Andhra Pradesh and Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, has confessed to killing 43 people and raping several women. He said his brother has also involved in the crime.

He told journalists at the Chittoor district crime police station, about 70 km from Tirupati yesterday that there was neither any outside influence nor conspiracy involved in the gory killings.

Arrested on July 19, Gopal appeared composed while narrating the details of his crimes. He admitted to raping 12 women, either after killing them or when they were still in their death throes.

He said he and his brother chose the houses and victims in isolated villages along the road. They waited till night and consumed liquor before committing the crime.

They hit the victims on their head with iron rods or pipes. After looting the house, they would clean the blood stains, throw the weapons into the bushes and make good their escape by the first bus in the morning.

The police took 11 months to track down the killers, the exercise costing it more than Rs 10 million.
