UDP-Congress govt sworn in

A four-member Congress and United Democratic Party coalition ministry, headed by B B Lyngdoh, has been sworn in in Meghalaya.

Governor M M Jacob administered the oath of office and secrecy to Lyngdoh, Chamberline B Marak and H B Dan at a simple ceremony in Raj Bhavan on Monday evening.

D D Lapang, who was the Opposition leader, took the oath later as deputy chief minister.

Lyngdoh had earlier submitted the resignation of his 139-day-old ministry to pave way for a new one in alliance with the Congress. The governor had accepted the resignation and requested Lyngdoh to continue till new arrangements were made.

Lapang said both the UDP and his party, the Congress, had agreed to hold the post of chief minister by rotation for the rest of the tenure.
