Supreme Court stays Laloo's arrest

The Supreme Court today stayed the arrest of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav in connection with the Rs 9.5 billion fodder scam.

The stay was granted by a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Justice M M Punchhi, Justices K T Thomas and S S M Quadri while fixing August 10 for hearing the RJD leader's special leave petition.

Laloo Yadav moved the Supreme Court yesterday challenging the Patna high court order dismissing his plea for quashing the designated Central Bureau of Investigation court order directing him to surrender in the court before July 27.

He filed a special leave petition against the order of Justice Naresh Kumar Sinha who had directed the former chief minister to surrender before the designated CBI court.

The Patna high court had also directed the CBI court to consider Laloo Yadav's bail application without being prejudiced by the high court order.
