Extremists kill 7, injure 24 in Kokrajhar

Suspected Bodo extremists shot dead seven persons and critically injured 24 others in the Tilapara village, under Saraikhola police station of Kokrajhar district in Assam on Friday night. The village is dominated by Santhals.

The extremists allegedly attacked the village with sophisticated weapons and fired indiscriminately. Five victims reportedly died on the spot, while two other succumbed en route to hospital.

Official reports said the extremists also attacked the headquarters of the seventh Assam police battalion at Saraikhola near the village. However, there were no casualties, they said.

Senior civil and police officials with additional forces have rushed to the spot and launched combing operations.
