Jain Commission report, ATR to be tabled on July 27

The Jain Commission report along with the Action Taken Report will be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Monday, July 27, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana announced today.

Khurana said if the House so wished the government would not hesitate to have a debate on the report of the Commission which probed the conspiracy angle of the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

He said leader of the Opposition Sharad Pawar had met him and discussed the report.

According to sources, the report is likely to come before the Cabinet which is meeting later tonight.

While reiterating Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's stand that India would not sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty under any pressure, Khurana refuted the charges by some Opposition leaders about the government's intention to change its position.

He said the government was ready to accept the Opposition demand to have a discussion in the Lok Sabha on foreign policy. If the Speaker agreed, the debate could be taken up on July 27 itself, he said, and added that the prime minister would reply to the debate.
