Central team to study Reang refugee problem

A five-member Union home ministry team, led by Joint Secretary (North-East) G K Pillai, arrived in Agartala on Tuesday and left for Kanchanpur in North Tripura district to study the Reang refugee problem.

About 37,000 Reang tribals, from Mizoram, have taken shelter in various places of Kanchanpur since October, 1997.

Officials said the team would discuss repatriation with the tribals. It would also take up the issue with the Tripura government on its return from Kanchanpur.
