Clinton nominates ambassador to Pak

US President Bill Clinton said on Thursday he will nominate career foreign service officer William B Milam of Sacramento, California, to be ambassador to Pakistan.

Milam currently is chief of mission at the US embassy in Monrovia, Liberia.

If confirmed by the senate, Milam will take the post in Islamabad at a moment of particularly strained US-Pakistan relations as a result of Pakistan's recent nuclear tests.

He has previously served as ambassador to Bangladesh, deputy assistant secretary of state for international finance and development and in several other posts in Washington and abroad.
