BJP announces office-bearers, gears up for assembly poll

Newly-elected Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party chief Mange Ram Garg has announced the new office-bearers of the party, and said preparations were on in full swing for the assembly elections due in November.

Announcing the new functionaries at a press conference in New Delhi, he said their main thrust would be to see that the ''good work'' done by the party during the past five years percolated down to people living in the remotest areas. The committee had been constituted to ensure that work for elections began in right earnest

The 15-member committee includes, besides Garg, four vice presidents -- O P Kohli, Ram Bhaj, Moolchand Chawla and Devendra Singh Shoukeen. Pawan Sharma, Om Prakash Babbar and Shyam Lal Garg will be general secretaries while Vedvyas Mahajan, Choudhary Mahendra Singh, Shagufta Khan and Chhatrapal will be secretaries. Arun Jain will be the treasurer, Madan Lal Abrol the office incharge and Rajpat Rai Kalra the associate office incharge.

The committee also includes 37 members of the executive. There will also be 26 special invitees including former Delhi BJP president Kedar Nath Sahani, Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, Union ministers Madan Lal Khurana and Sushma Swaraj and Delhi ministers Rajendra Gupta, Poornima Sethi, Dr Harshvardhan, S P Ratawal and H R Balli.

Praveen Sobti, who played the character of 'Bhim' in teleserial Mahabharat, is also a special invitee. He has joined the BJP and was introduced to the media by Garg.
