Five more die in Gujarat rainsThe monsoon toll in Gujarat has risen to 32 with five more deaths reported in the northern part of the state during the last 48 hours. According to meteorological department sources, the monsoon rains in the next 24 hours would be extensive covering not only Gujarat but also Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Heavy rainfall warning has also been sounded for isolated places in Gujarat, except Kutch. However, there are no cyclones expected. On Sunday, nearly 210 of the 230 talukas in Gujarat received rains. More than 50 of these witnessed heavy showers. Heavy rains are also likely to occur at isolated places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, coastal Karnataka and Kerala during next 48 hours. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and at many places in Gangetic West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, south interior Karnataka and at a few places over the rest of the country. The Southwest monsoon has been active in the Bihar plains and Gujarat region. Rain or thundershowers occurred at most places in Assam, Meghalaya, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka and at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Haryana, madhya Maharashtra, Kerala and at a few places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch, Vidarbha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, south interior Karnataka and at isolated places in Orissa, in the hills of West Uttar Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and north interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.
