Monsoon claims two more in KarnatakaThe monsoon death toll in Karnataka's Udupi district rose to 13 when, on Saturday, two people were washed away in floods. While six deaths have been reported from the Udupi taluk, Kundapur and Karkal accounted for three and four deaths respectively. In Maharashtra, the monsoon has claimed seven lives so far. Junagadh district recorded four deaths while Anand, Banaskantha and Porbandar districts registered one each. One person has been reported missing. The Southwest monsoon has also been active in Assam, Meghalaya, West Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. Rain or thundershowers occurred at most places in East Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep, at many places in Orissa, Bihar plateau, West Rajasthan, Gujarat, madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha and south interior Karnataka, and at a few places in Nagaland, Manipur Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, in the plains of West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Saurashtra, Kutch, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, north interior Karnataka and at isolated places in Tamil Nadu. Mainly dry wa weather prevailed over the rest of the country. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in coastal Karnataka, Kerala, at many places in sub- Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep, and at a few places over the rest of the country outside West Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu where rainfall would be at isolated places. Heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places in coastal Karnataka and Kerala during next 48 hours. UNI
