Moopanar rules out supporting Congress if it took AIADMK support

Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Moopanar today ruled out support to a Congress-led alternative government at the Centre if it included the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham.

Addressing the media after a meeting of the TMC's political affairs committee in Madras, he said since the Congress was a secular party, the TMC would extend support to it for the formation of an alternative government, in the event of the fall of the A B Vajpayee government.

However, such a government should not include "undesirable" parties, Moopanar said without naming the AIADMK.

The present arithmetic did not favour the formation of an alternative government, he added.

No political party wanted a fresh poll. But if an election was forced on the people, one has to face it, he said.
