Narayanan promises security to Pandits

President K R Narayanan on Wednesday assured a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits that he would look into their grievances and ask the prime minister to take care of their security.

A six-member delegation of the Pandits presented a memorandum to the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan, protesting against the Wandhama massacre.

The delegation included Pandit leaders C L Gadoo, Shiban Duda, H N Jatoo, Sunil Shakdher, H N Nehru and T N Razdan. Home Minister Indrajit Gupta and Home Secretary B P Singh were also present at the 30-minute meeting.

Earlier, the police arrested nearly 50 Pandits, including the delegation members, for trying to force entry into the Jammu and Kashmir Resident Commissioner S Sahni's office. They had wanted to give him a memorandum.
