5 dacoits lynched, 4 killed in DhurbiFive dacoits were lynched and three others seriously injured by a crowd in the Jaleshwar area of Assam's Dhurbi district on Tuesday. The police killed another four. Official sources said a police party confronted a group of 14 dacoits while they were returning to Lakhipur after looting a ferry on the Brahmaputra river. Four of them were killed in the encounter that followed. A crowd which had gathered, meanwhile, caught the rest of the gang. Five were lynched and three others beaten up severely. Another was arrested, but one managed to escape. The police recovered Rs 6,000 and a few locally-made firearms from the dacoits. UNI |
