Gujral sets up committees to help Sikh NRIsPrime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral has announced the setting up of two liaison committees for the speedy issuance and renewal of passports and visas to Punjabis living abroad. Gujral had made the announcement to a Punjabi Bhalai Manch (an organisation of Punjabis) which called on him. A committee headed by Satender Pal Singh Sidhwan, an office-bearer of the Manch, would function from Canada. Another one, under Food and Welfare Minister B S Ramoowalia, would be operational from New Delhi, PBM officials said. The Canada liaison committee will include representatives of the Indian high vommission, Canadian Council of Punjabis, the Punjabi Media Association and the Indo-Canadian Times. The Delhi committee will have officials from the ministries of external affairs, home and other government agencies. The Manch delegation, led by Sidhwan and Balraj Deol, has also demanded a review of the 'blacklist' containing names of Sikh non resident Indians. UNI |
