Date sent: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 23:44:14 +0500 The news is okay and unbiased but the general knowledge of the reporter is poor. Kutch is in Gujarat, not in Rajasthan as reported. Naresh Jaipur
Date sent: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 15:34:48 -0800 What kind of a stupid argument is this? "Stating that the fighter pilots would be grounded if they do not have the ground staff's support, the technical staff blame Air Chief Marshal Sareen's lopsided policies for the crisis." If the IAF's ground staff believe they are not being paid well enough, then they should say so and ask for better pay, instead of making such arguments in an attempt to make themselves look important. Date sent: Fri, 26 Dec 1997 05:01:08 -0600 Sounds like you have a few prima donnas with high pay. Open the jobs up to general competition. Most pilots will fly for nothing to get those jobs, especially ones with independent income. Pay a living wage and concentrate on having a larger backup group. Pilots can train in older aircraft, competing for the top of the line jobs. People seldom get upset with someone who has earned the rights to a job and must keep it by qualifications.
Date sent: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 23:44:21 -0500 I find it discouraging that soldiers and air force personnel who have to risk their life are treated shabbily. Another worrying factor is the general unruliness seen in the country which is now making its way in the armed force
Date sent: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 00:03:45 -0500 (EST) This report on IAF pay scales is an interesting pointer to the decadence and shortsightedness prevailing in the decision making circles. The current payscales are as absurd as taking good care of the hands and legs, but leaving out the eyes and brain. Contrary to what might be misread in your report, the IAF technical branch is still a very disciplined force, and hopefully stupidities on part of the government and the air chief will soon be remedied. Dilip
Date sent: Fri, 26 Dec 1997 16:08:26 -0500 I thought the interview with the Speaker, Mr Sangma, was very nice. Mr Sangma comes out as a modest person, genuinely concerned about the affairs of Parliament. His acknowledgement about the last Parliament that, "We were going away from national issues," and his fears about the election in, ".. There it will be very difficult to get the kind of quality we are talking about, the kind of MP we would ideally want. There, people have no choice," was rather admissive of the official policies that are practised. His optimism about the next Parliament and the potential of the people in it is encouraging, although I can't foresee a tremendous change in it from the last. I did, however, take exception to the title which made him appear like he was another of the greedy PM wannabes in the Congress. This in spite of all the other sensible things said at the interview. Date sent: Thu, 18 Dec 1997 15:33:42 -0500 This column is unbelievable, its awesome. I only wish that these politicians could think about the country and the people for once, rather than their bank balance. Moreover, we should have a retiring age for these guys, 55 years and you are out. Tell me one thing, if Sitaram Kesri becomes prime minister of India and I guess from his looks he is 65 or more, would he be interested in the welfare of the country or his own welfare? He would probably die in a few years, he is not going to be bothered about what happens to the country or its people. If there is a God he'd have mercy on India and make it easy on us.
Date sent: Sun, 21 Dec 1997 13:11:34 -0500 This is probably the most informative news magazine for NRIs. Every other news source from India, likes to present us "Their views" of such an incident, tainting reality. This the only source that gives the victim's views, letting us derive conclusions. I appreciate your respect for our intelligence. Indian news sources will never be truthful in their delivery. They are like the local politician. Appeasing every segment of the population for sales. That's why we wait for Nakkeeran for regular news. Keep up the good work. Narsi
Date sent: Wed, 24 Dec 1997 14:41:35 +0530 I fully agree with Hussaini and the cancer of religion in Indian society. Like Russi Mody said, we should ban all religious processions and public functions conducted in the name of religion. Whether they be Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, etc. Most parties profess to be secular, but none of them have the courage to even change application forms where they ask for the applicant's religion. If the BJP comes to power, believe me they will use religion as and when necessary. But probably they are better that the Congress, which is a party of bungling fools.
Date sent: Wed, 17 Dec 1997 22:56:30 -0600 (CST) I read your article on the IPKF's operation in Sri Lanka. It was a very revealing article, an eye opener. Seriously speaking, I was quite oblivious of the mistakes that we committed in Sri Lanka. That the entire IPKF operation was nothing but a cock and bull story, in which everything was predetermined by the central leadership is beyond comprehension. Please keep on writing good articles like these. They are very necessary to educate people and let them know the truth. Advait Kulkarni
Date sent: Thu, 18 Dec 1997 14:40:54 +0200 I would like to point you out that the ethnic background section in this article Jolt in Jaffna is not true. Please, ask the writer not to write something which he does not know. I am very much disappointed by the article at your site. K Jeyapalasingham
Date sent: Thu, 18 Dec 1997 19:03:40 PST This is in response to Nandy's article that Indians are inferior because we don't eat beef. What the hell is this guy trying to prove? He eats beefs, so he says the cricket squad eats beef. To become like Pakis should we start eating beef? That's what you're saying? I agree Indians are losers when it comes to many things. Like Pakis got rid of Hindus when Pakistan was formed. So they have no Hindu Muslim problems there. But Indians didn't get rid of Muslims, as a result India still has Hindu-Muslim riots. Then there are several issues where Indians give in. But all that because we don't eat beef? Give me a break. We need guts and not beef. The Indian ghas-phus keeps millions alive. I am a vegetarian and I am more outspoken and Indian than you are. Akshay
Date sent: Sun, 4 Jan 1998 06:57:17 -0000 The Tina Ambani report was great.
Date sent: Wed, 24 Dec 1997 20:05:57 +0530 I hope that one day our traditional news media will have the same hard hitting articles which you have always had at Rediff. And in case I've missed the point, let me reiterate that it's always a pleasure to be at your site. Rahul Chitale
