Greek president supports Indian demand for permanent Security Council seatGreek President Konstantinos Stephanopoulos on Tuesday indicated that his country supported India's candidature for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. ''Given the important role India will play in future, it is impossible to deny New Delhi its due role in world affairs,'' he said during his talks with Prime Minister I K Gujral in the capital. Stephanopoulos, who is on a week-long visit to India, hailed the reforms launched by the country and said India had very high economic potential and productivity. The two countries also signed an agreement for close co-operation in the field of tourism. The Greeks have always supported India's position on regional and international affairs. "They supported our stand that the Kashmir issue should be resolved by New Delhi and Islamabad through negotiations," officials said. UNI |
