18 injured in two explosions

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Sixteen people were injured in Jammu and Kashmir when a powerful bomb exploded on a passenger bus Tuesday morning. Four of the injured are critical.

The Srinagar-bound bus had started from Jammu in the morning. However, it was stopped in Nagrota on the city outskirts, and asked to return as the highway was closed due to snowfall. The bomb exploded minutes after the passengers disembarked at the Nagrota bus station.

The Jammu authorities have ordered a massive security vigil in view of the incident. All passing vehicles are being thoroughly searched. The security around bus stations, and other public areas has been tightened.

In another incident, a bomb exploded in Tral, a south Kashmir town, seriously wounding two security force jawans. On Monday, three militants were killed in the town when an improvised explosive device which they were planting went off prematurely.

At Taskin village in Duhampur district, two jawans were killed when a group of militants ambushed a patrol party. The troops returned the fire, killing one militant.

Militants bombed the home of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat in Sirigufwara village near Pahalgam. However, no one was hurt.
