2 injured in Pak fire

Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian positions in Jammu and Kashmir's Bharat area Sunday evening, causing injuries to a civilian.

Elsewhere, four militants and a village defence committee member were killed during the past 24 hours.

An official spokesman said Pak troops opened fire with automatic weapons. The injured has been identified as Raj Kumar.

On Saturday, another village at the border, Chandoo Chack, had come under Pakistani fire, forcing the army to retaliate. A civilian was injured in the incident.

The spokesman said militants resorted to indiscriminate firing in village Hanaja early Monday morning. However, the village defence committee members returned the fire. In the exchange, a VDC member was killed. The militants managed to escape.

In south Kashmir, two militants were killed when an improvised explosive device they were planting at Bajkot Tral exploded.

The spokesman said forces captured two militants and another three surrendered in the valley in the past 24 hours.

A Border Security Force spokesman said armed personnel killed two militants at Sonarpura Thiru village in Ganderbal Tehsil, about 40 km from Srinagar on Sunday. The BSF had cordoned off the village on a tip-off when militants fired on them. The jawansreturned the fire, killing the two. A head constable was injured in the incident.

Two AK 56 rifles, one pistol and two grenades were recovered from the spot.
