Gujral will be elected unopposed from Jalandhar: BadalPunjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today expressed confidence that Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral would be elected unopposed from Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency. When his attention was drawn to Akali Dal ally Bharatiya Janata Party's reservations on the offer of the Jalandhar seat to Gujral, Badal said, ''We will successfully persuade the BJP to fall in line with the Akali Dal on the issue.'' He stated this at a joint media conference with BJP national vice-president Madan Lal Khurana. Regarding the Congress stand on the Jalandhar seat, he challenged the state party leadership, saying, ''If they are true Punjabis, let them try to put up a candidate against Gujral.'' Earlier, Khurana said his party would hold nationwide joint rallies alongwith the top leadership of its allies. Asked whether any such rally would be held at Jalandhar, he evaded a direct reply, saying that the dates and venues would be decided by the weekend. UNI
