APHC to boycott pollsMukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar The All Party Hurriyat Conference has decided to boycott the forthcoming parliamentary election as it would bring 'no solution to the Kashmir problem.' "We will take part in the polls only if it is conducted under the supervision of the United Nations," an APHC spokesman said. The Hurriyat had last year boycotted both the parliamentary and assembly elections. It had alleged the polls were rigged. The spokesman said the APHC has begun its anti-poll campaign with a public meeting in Tral, a south Kashmir town, where it accused Dr Farooq Abdullah's National Conference government of 'unleashing a reign of terror.' The NC leadership, meanwhile, is busy finalising the list of candidates for the six parliamentary constituencies -- Srinagar, Baramullah, Anantnag, Jammu, Udhampur and Leh. "Consultations are on," said party general secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad, "The working committee will meet in Jammu to finalise the list." Sheikh was hopeful the NC would bag all six seats. UNI |
