K P S Gill's conviction upheldChandigarh district and sessions Judge Amar Dutt on Tuesday upheld former Punjab director general of police K P S Gill's conviction in the Rupan Bajaj molestation case, but released him on a three-year probation under court supervision. On August 6, 1996, Gill was sentenced to three months in jail for slapping Bajaj's posterior during a dinner party hosted by then financial commissioner (home) S L Kapoor at his official residence. The incident had occurred in 1988, and Gill was alleged to have been intoxicated. Delivering his judgement, Dutt directed Gill not to drink in public places and to pay Rs 200,000 as compensation to Bajaj. Gill has also been directed to deposit Rs 50,000 with the court as litigation expenses out of which Rs 25,000 will be paid to Bajaj. The ex-cop will have to fill a bond by tomorrow and give an undertaking not to drink in public or private parties till the end of his probation. UNI |
