Sleuths identify culprits behind Delhi blastsA high level investigation team has "by and large'' identified the people behind the series of bomb blasts in the capital, Delhi police Commissioner T R Kakkar said. Kakkar said the probe by the special investigating team comprising officers from the Delhi police, the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Intelligence Bureau had made 'tremendous strides' and made some arrests. However, the 'real culprits' were still at large. "But we will reach them very soon," he promised. At least 10 people were killed and about 250 injured in the 22 blasts which rocked the capital last year. Reiterating his stand that Delhi was a comparatively safer city, the commissioner said the crime rate in the capital had gone up by a mere three per cent against that of 1996. ''This is not disproportionate compared to the increase in the population every year,'' he said. Kakkar claimed arrests were made in 90 per cent of heinous cases, including murders, rapes and dacoities. Ninety per cent of such crimes, he revealed, were committed by novices. UNI |
