Loktantrik Congress splits down middle

Loktantrik Congress working president Baccha Pathak today said at least eight party legislators had expressed faith in former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh's leadership.

At a hurriedly called press conference at the home of state Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh, Pathak claimed four other members of the 22-member party would soon come forward to support Kalyan Singh and that Deputy Chief Minister Naresh Agarwal was also with them.

Six other Loktantrik Congress MLAs were present at the press conference -- Diwakar Vikram Singh, Amar Mani Tripathi, Laxmi Narain Chaudhry, Dalbir Singh, Satish Sharma and Fateh Bahadur Singh.

Diwakar Vikram Singh claimed Vivek Singh, who had taken the oath as a minister in Jagdambika Pal's cabinet on Saturday, was completing the process of resignation to rejoin them.
