Minister quits AGP govt

Assam Minister of State for science, technology and environment Abdul Rouf has resigned from Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta's cabinet.

Speaking from Hojai, his hometown in Nagaon district, Rouf said he sent his resignation to the chief minister last evening through a special messenger. He said he has resigned as he had lost confidence in the government headed by Mahanta. But he clarified that he would not leave the Asom Gana Parishad. Mahanta said he had not received the letter.

Meanwhile, a former minister and member of the Tea tribe community, Barki Prasad Telenga, resigned from the AGP's primary membership yesterday. He did not give any reason for doing so.
