NHRC to start Wandhama probe on Wednesday

A high-level National Human Rights Commission team, headed by Director General (Investigation) Sankar Sen, will arrive in the Kashmir valley on Wednesday to conduct an on-the-spot inquiry into the Wandhama massacre.

NHRC sources said the team would be in the valley for three days. The Commission has asked it to submit its report immediately so that it can proceed hearing the various problems faced by Kashmiri Pandits.

Earlier, the NHRC's three-member bench, headed by its chairperson Justice M N Venkatachaliah had issued notices to Union Home Secretary B P Singh and the chief secretary and director general of police of Jammu and Kashmir on the safety of the minorities in the valley.

The Kashmiri Pandits, who had petitioned the Commission soon after the incident, had urged that it should recommend suitable arrangements for protecting Vinod Dhar, the lone survivor of the killing.
