Pakistan feels China won't play Russian ball

E-Mail this report to a friend

Pakistan Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz has ruled out the possibility of a triangular alliance among Russia, India and China.

"China may not join such an alliance, especially after the Indian declaration that it is India's number one enemy," he told the British Broadcasting Corporation's Urdu service.

The 'triangular' concept was put forward by Russian Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov in New Delhi on Monday.

Meanwhile, reports that India and Moscow will sign agreements on military and technical co-operation before Primakov returns are causing concern in Pakistan.

(On Tuesday, the two countries signed seven agreements.)

Aziz said his country is worried that India will sign up for the "purchase of Russian weapons while we are told to show restraint".

Asked if Pakistan would now approach China for arms, the minister said his country already enjoys good relations with Beijing.

"There are also efforts to improve relations with Russia," he added.
