E-Mail this report to a friend

The Assam police today rescued the kidnapped brother of Health Minister Dr Kamala Kalita from the Meghalaya border.

According to Kamrup Superintendent of Police B K Mishra, the victim, Satish Kalita, was rescued from the hideout of the terrorists after a short encounter.

"The police moved cautiously into the area to ensure the hostage could be rescued unharmed, and we succeeded. We chased the militants and caught six of them. They were taking shelter for the night at Shantipur primary school on the Assam-Meghalaya border," Mishra said.

The encounter took place early this morning.

Kalita was kidnapped by Bodo Liberation Tiger militants on November 7. Also among the arrested today were militants of the Garo National Security Force.
