Renowned astrologer Dr B V Raman died in Bangalore on Sunday morning due to cardiac arrest. He was 87.

He is survived by wife, five sons and two daughters.

Dr Raman was in perfect health and worked till the last minute, his daughter said.

He was the first person to address the United Nations on astrology, in the early 70s, and has visited a number of countries to lecture about its use in daily life.

Dr Raman founded the All India Astrology Research Institute in 1994, and edited the Astrological Magazine for 63 years.

Expressing shock over the demise, Union Commerce Minister Ramakrishna Hegde said Dr Raman's death has 'created a vacuum which cannot not be filled'.
