SC stays high court order on top army appointment

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Supreme Court today stayed the operation of the Delhi high court judgment directing the Centre to abide by its ruling on the appointment of Lieutenant General R S Kadiyan as general officer commanding-in-chief in place of Lieutenant General H R S Kalkat.

The operation of the judgement was stayed by a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice A S Anand, Justices V N Khare and M B Shah.

The order came when the attorney and solicitor general informed the court about the filing of a special leave petition challenging the impugned high court judgment.

The Delhi high court had on Wednesday dismissed the government's appeal against its earlier order quashing the appointment of Lieutenant General Kalkat as general officer commanding-in-chief of the eastern command.
