Digvijay threatens BJP with agitation over Chhattisgarh

E-Mail this report to a friend

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has charged the Bharatiya Janata Party with ''dilly dallying'' on granting statehood to Chhattisgarh.

Talking to the media at Dongargadh in Rajnandgaon district, Singh said after Parliament passed the bill concerned, it would take another three months for the state to come into existence.

Asked if his government would ask for an economic package from the Centre, Singh said: ''We will ask, but I am sure the Centre will not give a positive response. Despite promises, they backtracked on providing any aid for the farmers of the state struck by natural calamities.''

He said the Congress would launch a public agitation if the BJP went back on its word on Chhattisgarh.
