Cold wave claims first victim in RajasthanThe cold wave claimed its first victim in Rajasthan with the death of a 25-year-old man in Chittorgarh district. Reports said the death occurred in the Nai Aabadi locality of Begod town Sunday. The citadel town of Chittorgarh remained the coldest place with the mercury dipping to three degree celsius Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Churu recorded a minimum of five degree celsius Monday followed by Ganganagar and Dabok (Udaipur), both at eight degrees, Phalodi and Bikaner (nine degrees) and Ajmer at 10 degree celsius. In Jaipur, the mercury stayed at eight degree celsius for the second consecutive day. Meanwhile, heavy rains likely at isolated places in Tamil Nadu during the next 48 hours. Cold wave conditions prevailed in Kashmir. Night temperatures were appreciably below normal in parts of Marathwada, Vidarbha and Telangana, and below normal in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh. They were appreciably above normal in parts of Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, central Maharashtra and interior Karnataka, and above normal in parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, east Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. They were normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh from where the data were sparse. The Northeast monsoon has been active in Tamil Nadu. Rain or thundershowers occurred at many places in Lakshadweep and at a few places in coastal Karnataka and Kerala, and at isolated places in the Andaman and Nicobar islands. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.
